August 22, 2009 – Day 27:  Ellensburg, WA to Longview, Wa – 293 Miles

It would be another short ride but long day, I started out early.  First location for the day, Mt. Rainer National Park.  To get there I took the 97 south to State 12 West.  From there it was 123 North to 706 West through the park.  I exited the park and continued on to my next fuel stop in Elbe.  From there I traveled south back to 12 west and eventually headed south again down to Mt. Saint Helens.  After leaving Mt. Saint Helens I traveled south-west to my stop for the night in Longview.  I really got some spectacular shots along this leg of the trip.

Mt. Saint Helens really impressed me.  I remember watching the news cast leading up to, and then during the eruption on television as a young man.  Even after all these years, the devastation and destruction is monumental and life changing.  A person realizes just how small and insignificant they really are when they come face to face with the mountain.
