August 10, 2008 – Day 15: Fairbanks, AK to Denali National Park, AK – 150.45 Miles
- The Road to Denali
The morning started off cold and wet. Rain gear was the dress for the day and I put it on before I left the room. I started off south on Route 3 the North Parks Highway. As I turned right on the Denali National Park Road the rain was light but steady, and a heavy fog was setting in.
I rode down the road wondering what magnificent sights I might be seeing if the fog wasn’t so thick. After about 90 minutes on the little road I came to a pull out. I decided to take a quick break. I pulled over and shut the bike down. I walked over to a sign on the edge of the parking area; it pointed out towards the horizon and showed a drawing of Denali, aka Mount. McKinley. I guess the mountain is out there somewhere.
- The Sign
I popped off a few shots realizing there was nothing out there to see, but knowing I had to do it, after all this was one of the shooting highlights of the trip. Laughing to myself over what I had just shot, I climbed back on the bike and continued south towards my accommodations for the evening. The day’s ride had been short and not real productive. I arrived at my evening’s accommodations early, the Denali River Cabins.
